Transmission issue with Passat Wagon 2001 |
|
hi I am new to this community.
I have a 2001 passat wagon with a few issues:
Couple weeks ago it the engine started to stall from time to time. At first it happened only a few times when i was stopping the car at a light or a stop sign but then it started to occur more and more and even when the car is on its way. When it happens at 20mph, it blocks the steering whell which is really annoying.
2nd issue: While using the triptonic manual gear shift, from time to time the car will shift automatically gear from 2nd to 3rd without me doing anything.
Finally, again from time to time, the accelerator paddle will not respond even under more pressure. It usually last only for a few seconds.
I am not an expert but all of the above make me things that I have a transmission problem. The car is still under warranty (pre-loved) and I would like to make sure VW do the appropriate job on the car before I loose the warranty.
has anyone faces the same issues - was it a transmission problem?
I would appreciate any insight you might have.
Thanks a lot.

Hello thaddee,
I read your post and find this sounds familiar... One year ago I had the same symptoms.. I have a 01' Passat aswell. Aside from that the issue with a stalling feeling after the care was moving. Yes , starting around 20mph and up... Really it was any time I accelerated. I felt like it was basically missing. I replaced the plugs. Then I replaced the wires... I found that it was the ignition coil and I luckily had it replaced under warranty so I hope if this is the problem you're having then you can do the same..
one question, when you punch on the gas does the engine rev or does it sound like its missing? If still reving higher and the actual acceleration goes down then yes....it could be transmission but if the RPM goes down with loss of actual acceleration and then catches back up it could be the coil.. Mine just wasn't firing the plugs constantly, but only when accelerating... once going it was fine.
I hope this helps some
