Post Touareg for the desert Reply with quote
Hello folks,

I have smashed my Landrover Discovery 04. As option for a new 4x4 I have the Touareg in mind. Living in the Emirates and using the vehicle excessivly offroad (desert) I need to have some info about the capabilities and possible (affordable) mods to get it performing...

Anyone can help?

Tks

Hello, I live in the land of ice and snow. Snowing as I write. Depends what you mean by perform. Here deep slippery mud and lots of hidden rocks. Performance is improved by using high quality 10 ply tires that do not work well on pavement. Further adding better breathing air filters. Mid performance mods typically involve positive lock differentials, and better lights. Radical performance mods are the addition of a track system to the rear wheels, roll cages etc. My neighbor has a Canadian built Bombardier. I helped install a new TDI out of a rolled 2006 . Its a slow, snow machine and an expensive toy, However you would not believe its perfomance. He goes where others would not even contemplate.
Yes we tried a sand bluff. I thought we were about to roll over backwards. He never spun a track. Hes plain crazy Gave me a real thrill. Allan

Hi Allan,

.. snow and ice Rolling Eyes ... loooong time I have seen that Very Happy

Well, what I am realy looking for is to get the thing lifted, maybe 2", protected on the front with a skid-plate and of course the right shoes, pardon tyres and rims (I do not like the wheel-set mounted by default. I prefer some steel rims with a bigger diameter and good Mickey Thomsons Cool ).

I am also curious to hear something about the relaiability of the electronic gadgets like traction control or if it is better to get some manual/air lockers. One more is the sensitivity of the airbag setup I have wittnessed in other vehicles (having all airbags blown while cresting with H3 ain't no fun).

I have no idea if these mods are available of feasable at all. Definatly I need some expert-advice.

Thanks for bringing back the cold into my mind....

Jo
