Temperature light on blue when starting the car -bug |
|
I'm about to purchase a 2002 Bug and the temperature light came on for a brief time when I first started the car- is this normal? It went right off after a few mins, and never came back on once we were test driving. If it's not the norm what I should I check out on the veh and make the dealer fix before I buy?
This is my first bug and I want to have a good experience with it. It's got 46K and it's in really good condition, clean carfax etc. Anything else to check out???? I still have time.
Thanks.

Blue temp light. |
|
hi, it's quite normal for the light to be on at startup, it is in effect your engine temperature "gauge".VW went 1 step further than the idiot lights of old and gave us this light which blue wneh the engine is cold, it goes out when the ehgine reaches operating temperature the n it will go red and beep if your engine ever overheats. If it does go red take it as seriously as you would any analogue gauge.

i have a 2001 beetle. it is normal as my car does the same. i figured out that it goes off after about 3 - 5mins. i had asked the same question aswell. i was told that dont put your foot to the floor and go flying with it ( i mean dont go down the road at like 90mph etc).

Thank YOU! |

I just bought an '04 Beetle about a month ago and this light has been making me very nervous! I appreciate you asking the ? and those that responded! I LOVE my beetle and I have been doing a lot of research. The ONLY apprehention that I have is repairs. I hope that if I take good care of it that it will continue to be a reliable car! Thanks again!

The car was actually designed to do that. The Blue indicator means that you car is cold and it will not allow you to hit the higher gears. pretty much your car is telling you its not ready to race! once your cars warms up a bit it will shut off. Like the others said you just have to worry about it turning red.
