Hi there... I just bought a second hand golf - year 2000 - mk4. From time to time the card shudders (sometimes quite dramatically) when I take my foot off the accelerator. It also can shudder when the revs are low. I don't know much about cars - does anyone have any ideas what the problem might be? It needs a full service anyway and I'd like to give the mechanic an idea as to what I think the problem is. Cheers. Bairdy

Well it sounds like it just may need a tune up. do you have a check engine light when this happens?

thanks for that. No light comes on but just before I bought it the service light was on. The dealer got an oil change etc done and got the service indicator reset. It's really bizarre because sometimes it works just fine - is this common? Does a tune up come as standard with a full service? Thanks, Bairdy

depends on the place full service may just be a oil change and tire rotation.

they would call it a major service or maintance required at 40/80/120.

good luck

Greetings! I too am having issues with my new used Beetle. I noticed the shudder during downshifting and sometimes also during upshifting. Took it to the VW dealer and they told me I need a whole new transmission for $6K! Cant afford that right now. Car has 72K miles now, got receipt from previous owner that a full check up was done at 65K miles. If anyone knows what I need to do next please reply. I will appreciate all the input. THanks!!! Confused

Hello well you could just need a valve body.

but there are some preasure test that would need to be done.
to verify.

sorry to here the dealer wonts to just put a trans in but there are test that confirm that is needed.
I would find a new shop and see if they can test the trans for you.
main line preasure and trans internal leakage test.

good luck
