Shocked!! 53 reg 1.4 needs new gear box!! |
|
Hi there
I was once a proud Volkswagon polo owner - that was until this morning!!
I have a 53reg 1.4 Polo Twist which I brought less than 6 months ago from a Volkswagon dealership. On Friday it started making a screeching metal on metal sound and the gear stick started jumping around. There was no prior warning this Thursaday no noise - Friday noise. I've taken it back to the garage that I brought it from to be told that when they looked at it the gear box internally folded in on itself and that it's basically buggered. They've quoted me £1772 to replace the gear box and clutch.
This kind of repair work i'd expect from and older car or one with higher milage But it's got LESS than 40,000 miles on the clock inwhich i've only done 2,000 so you can see i'm not razzing it around town. Plus it has full volkwagon stamped service history.
Seriously, is this a common expected problem to be replacing internally folded in gear box's every 40,000 miles.
Many thanks for any comments or advice!
Chelle

I would get onto the dealer and see what they will do about it, after all you bought it off them. if they won't do anything email VW uk and also email VW Germany explaining this is not very good..
If as i expect you get negative replys..tell them your going to Use the internet and every chance you get explain what happened to your car and the response you got from the dealers and VW, loads of sites have user comments you could fill in...
