Second Gear Crunch - 2006 Passat - Help!!! |
|
I bought a Passat 1.9TDI last week, its 14 months old and 18K on the clock! only problem is almost every time i change to second gear the gearbox crunches. This happens only with second gear, even when the clutch is flat on the floor! can anyone shed any light on what could be causing it please? is the gearbox faulty?
thanks in advance,
Dave

I get the same thing. Bought 06 plate passat, 18months old in January this year. It's going in for 1st service and they said they'd look at it as part of the warranty.
I get around it by doing a slow 1st to 2nd gear change (clutch in, change, count mississippi-one, clutch out). If I do a fast one (clutch in, change, clutch out) I get a crunch which is jarring and makes the next changes more likely to be crunchy. I'll keep you posted how I got on.

Yes there is a concern with the Gear syncro inside the trans.
VW does have info about it.
But you still need to go to your Dealer and test drive with a Tech or the foreman to show what, when, and where it happens so they can get the info back to VW.
If you don't they will take longer to help fix it.
Plus it was a short Production of cars that this happened to. so it's not a bad design just a bad set of parts that made it in some of ours.
good luck keep us informed.

Hi
I took my car to the dealer this week and had to go for a drive with the mechanic who witnessed the problem, when i returned to the garage they checked my vehichle details and straight away the chassis number was flagged up as requiring a gearbox oil change as a first step to a solution for this issue! Oil change has solved the problem, not even a hint of a crunch in the past 2 days,
Andy
