repair door winder mechanism separated from window |
|
VW polo W reg. My wife tried to wind down the rear window while the window was iced up. This detached the window from the winder mechamism. While fixing this I damaged the door card.
To help you avoid similar damage I describe how to remove the door card. Carefully lever off the trim cover plate from the plastic door handle (fatter diagonal handle). Starting the levering of the trim may cause some danmage so start at the bottom somewhere where you are less likely to see any small nicks. This will reveal two large philips screws which you need to remove. Pull off the thin plastic cover from the window winder to reveal the screw that holds the window winder to the spindle. Remove this screw and pull off the winder handle. The door card is held on with ~9 plastic clips placed around the perimeter of the door card. Carefully pull door card off the clips. Take special care around the door opener (chrome metal handle for opening the door). Make sure the door opener is pulled open at 90 degrees to the door before removing the door card. Carefully Peel the foam cover from the door lifting it over the clip posts to revela the winder mechanism. Reattach the window winder handle and wind the window mechanism to the lowest position. There is a hole in the bottom of the window and a corresponding hole in the winder mechanism clip. In my case the plasic pin holding the window to the winder mechanism was broken. I replace this to fix the window. Refitting is the reverse of removal
