 Rear seat release handle broken |

We have a problem with our 05 golf TDI. The rear seat release lever quit working. Thinking that I could take it apart and repair it, I ape fisted it enough to break several plastic parts associated with the release handle. I dont see a way to disassemble the seat to get to the internal parts. Has anyone else had this happen?
