Radio Question |
|
Hello All,
I just installed an OEM VW cassette radio in my 1999 Jetta. It is identical to the one I took out, except this one has not been pryed out of the dash like the old one. When I power the new one up the LED screen says "SAFE" and then displays 4 numbers. I assume I am suppose to enter some type of security code. Anyone know how to remedy this? Is there a universal code? If not, where do I get one?

After doing a little research, I learned that I need to post the radios serial number before the code can be determined. The serial number is: VWZ9Z7X7048273. Thank you in advance. By the way, who is the manufacturer of the radios for these '99 Jettas?

I have a 97 Jetta and when I took out the old stock radio and put my pioneer one in, it said safe on it too. I had to call Volkswagen and get them to redeem a code. They wanted to charge me $80 dollars the first time so i called again and they gave me a code. The number you're suppose to enter should be in your Volkswagen Manual. Mine, didn't have one that's why I had to call Volkswagen. So I would check your manual everything you need on how to do it and the number should be in there and if not call the closest Volkswagen Dealer. Hope that's any help to you.

The radio I installed was from a friends Jetta and is/was identical to the original one. The manual is no help as the radio card as been removed and would not work on the new radio anyway. I did find a copy of a radio card out of a manual on another forum and it clearly states that if you loose your code, contact your VW dealer and they will assist you free of charge. So, I will give that a try tomorrow. Thank you for your reply.

Thanks Volkshaus,
I just got off the phone with the dealer not 30 minutes ago. They were able to obtain the code for me and it works like a champ. The dealer was O'Brien's in Champaign, Illinois. I talked to two service advisors, Nic and Drew, both of them were extremely helpful, especially when you consider I told them I bought the car privately. For a first encounter, A+ on the customer service.

I think after a few attempts you have to wait for the radio to reset itself. Have you checked your manual?
