Anyone own this car? I am considering purchasing one but am very nervous because I've never owned a volkswagen before and wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with this model. I really love GTIs and have always wanted one but I don't want it to break down on me or being in the shop all the time. Thanks for your answers.

hey you're in elk grove, ca too! I live there... I'm currently selling my 2001 prelude to get the model I mentioned above. I'm just sort of worried because I've never strayed outside of honda.

I own a 02 1.8t gti with over a 100k on it and it still is as reliable as the day I got it... I recently had to replace some plastic/rubber parts but all n all it has been a great car... Gets the job done and is a lot of fun to drive... If you get one, enjoy it!
