I have just purchased a 69 vw beetle and it will start if you push it but it will not start if you try to just turn the ignition. I have tried to replace the genarator and starter is there something else I my look to to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

try to bypass the ignition switch with a screwdriver that should tell you if it is the switch.Touch the positive cable to the starter wire.

First off thank you. I tried the screwdriver trick and the starter spins but the engine does not start, what else may be the problem?

did you have the key on. As the coil still needs power to fire the spark to the engine.

you need to remove the starter and replace it if you only hear the starter turn and it's not turn over the engine.
then the starter bendex is bad that is what pushis the gear into the flywheel to turn the engine over.

good luck
