Power steering pump reservoir passat wagon W8 |

How do you check the power steering reservoir on a 2003 Passat Wagon W8? When you start it early in the morning when it is cold, you can hear the pump working and it makes a whining noise when you turn the wheel. After it warms up, the noise stops. Is there a place to check the power steering fluid level? I have checked the maintenance book but haven't found anything.

In the engine compartment there will be a reservoir(probably black) with a hose running away from it that goes to a pump(it will be driven by a belt). Start engine and let it warm up. After it is warm, with engine running, take cover off reservoir. It will have a dipstick attached to it. Make sure it is in between the lines at the bottom of the stick. If not just add a SMALL amount of fluid at a time. These generally don't take a lot of fluid unless you have a leak which is very noticable.
