POS Jetta, 2001, 1.8T, coolant sensor & thermostat |

Just got this POS out of the shop AGAIN.....had the engine module replaced (at 94K miles) to the tune of over $800 at the dealer......Less that 100 miles later....you guessed it. The freaking check engine light is on again. YGBFKM!!!! went back to the dealer, put it back on the computer, this time they tell me its the engine coolant light and thermostat. Oh yeah, and there's carbon build up on the fuel injectors from sitting too long.....are you kidding me? I'm not a VW guy, but do have some mechanical ability. Can anyone please tell me where the coolant sensor is located, and also where to get a stick of dynamite to blow the POS into a thousand pieces? I'll buy my son something different next time.

Standing at the front of the car looking down at the engine it'll be on the right side of the engine. Remove the two engine covers and remove the top of the air box and intake hose to gain easier access to the sensor. You probably have a black sensor in place right now which will be replaced by a green one you'll buy from VW. Don't forget to get a new seal with it. Just remove the clip to get the old sensor out. I leave them plugged in for ease of removal. Just make sure you get the old seal out of the opening. Before installing the new one and then the clip. Try not to get any coolant in the connection. Should be good to go. Thermostat? Sitting too long? Remember it's only a POS if someone lets it become a POS. It's not the cars fault. I also noticed the key word Son and I'll Buy. Just my humble opinion let the kid buy his own car and pay his own bills and maybe just maybe the car will last longer next time!!! JAT?
