Polo vibrating/shuddering engine whilste Idle |

Help! 1st of all; I’m Dutch and I’m no mechanic, so I apologize if I get the words/terminology wrong, but most likely my bad English is better then your Dutch.
I have a vw polo 1.9 diesel 1996 (The engine has got a lot of miles on it (+ 250.000 km / 160.000 miles)) and my engine seems to be on high rpm in idle position. This isn’t too bad, the engine is noisy/shudders a lot. Once accelerating to 1500 rpm+ the engine behaves pleasantly; no more shaking/noisy car. The problem occurred before and after I got the main distribution belt changed so that should be set to proper timing. This also has nothing to do with engine temperature. I know I can modify idle rpm, but this isn’t really fixing the problem, my idle rpm is already over 1000 /noisy. As soon as I release the accelerator and the engine drops low on rpm, it starts shaking again. What’s wrong and how do I get it fixed???
