Hey, my name is Sarah, I just bought a used 1994 Jetta III GL. Its got a few miles on it, but its in nice shape. When I bought it it had aftermarket Neons underneath and it is Lowered in the front. I believe it has a factory alarm system. I was wondering if any of you knew how to disable the alarm? Also, its very hard to start....it ALWAYS starts BUT it take a few cranks sometime up to 4 cranks to start. My husband just unhooked the wires to the aftermarket sound system and neons, the only thing hooked up to the battery now is what we believe is the alarm wires. My battery looks really old and there was a ton of corrosion on it... So I cleaned the terminal and the battery. It started up but took 2 cranks. I have put fuel injector cleaner through it a few days ago- but have only gone 1/4 of a tank. So, do you guys think changing out the old battery might help the hard starts? Or does any one know of a starting problem with this year make and model? Just one last question- I think I knocked my oil pan loose (I wasn't used the car being so low in the front and went KINDA fast over some tracks.).....Is it easy to change out an oil pan in the jetta? I have a small leak from the back of the oil pan...Oopps... And It needs and oil change cuz the fliter is leaking and it looks worn. If anyone could help a novice VW lover out that would be great! Thank you!~

Sarah

Hello Sarah, I live in an extreme northern climate. My diesel Jettas need 2 batteries. , plus a engine heater. Long cranking at minus 40 is normal . I sujest you go to a battery dealer such as Costco and have yours tested. They can quickly diagnose its condition.
New platinum plugs and aclean air filter, as well as perhaps replacing both corroded battery terminals.
Doing it myself ///4 plugs@$3.00 =$12.00, New battery around $65.00 Air filter $6.00/$8.00 5 Liters oil
about $15.00 ///Filter $5.00 Oil filter gasket $6.00 <its easy to change> Roughly $120.00 , and a lot less if your battery is OK. If you have cracked your aluminum oil pan, a local aluminum welding shop can permanently repair it whrn its off the car. Allan
