Well you could do that but i do not think it will clear enough.
It would have better to pull both togeather and slit on the ground as the motor and trans togeather are real balance when pulling if yo pull the motor by it's self it tends to go where it wonts and not where you wont it too.

let us know how it went.

I am learning what you mean. I will start to unbolt the transmission next time I work on the car. This will take me a few more months, but I am having fun learning how to do all of this. I really appreciate your replies Volkhaus. Thanks. Smile

Well, so far, time really has not been an issue. I always seem to have more of it than money however, as I think that is the case with most. I will probably be wanting more of your expertise when I reinstall the engine, like properly hooking up all the vacuum and coolant lines and that sort of thing. I bought a Bently manual and it is no where as detailed as I thought it would be. I will keep you posted. Thanks Again.

Volkshaus,

As you can tell, I'm a noobie here, but regardless, I just wanted to say that I'm impressed with your willingness to help others, the knowledge and the ability to communicate your point via the internet. Just thought that it's nice to give a pat on the back every once in a while in this ever increasing cynical, and often thankless world.

Cheers,
Brian

I've had my Cabrito since '96, got 165k on her. I put a new water pump on the other day and noticed that the idiot light for oil pressure comes on now around 2500rpm's. The cooler blew the o-ring about 10k ago and she got a little hot then but was able to shut her down before the light and buzzer went off. The switches seem to be okay as well as the wiring. Changed oil and filter to no avail. Started checking with engine running and removed the cap on the valve cover. Is it usual for a 2.0 to sound like an outboard? I am asuming that the pick-up tube is damaged or plugged and want some advice before have to wrestle the pan off and likely finding bad things. Any suggestions would be appreciated.Sad

Well the motor and tranny are out and split apart. Next I need to swap the flywheel and clutch to the new motor. I noticed that the engine I removed from the car has some type of a cap or something mounted to the back of the engine and the replacement engine does not. I assume that I can just swap rear pieces of the engines and I'll be find. It almost looks like it has cap right behind the oil fill cap. What is this?[img][/img][img] Heres a pic that I just took of the engine removed. I hope I can figure out how to put this all back together.

Post VW Jetta 2000 1.8L T Oil pressure switch Reply with quote
my oil light flashes at me... i took it to a mechanic near me and he said i had an oil pressure switch out.
where is it and is it possible for me to do it myself?
i went to advanced auto parts and they told me its less than $20 but i need to know is it brown or black?
which leads me to my follow up... does anyone know if the switch is black or brown?
and if anyone has a diagram or a site that has diagrams that would be amazing!
thank u
