New '98 Jetta Owner |
|
Hey y'all,
New guy here. Got a '98 Jetta about a week ago. Had gotten some good reviews from friends, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It's a 2.0 4 cylinder with about 151,500 miles on it. Didn't pay too much for it, so my hopes aren't exactly "up", but I'm wondering what I should be expecting with an older VW. What should I have checked out first as far as things that might need my immediate attention.
As of right now, car runs great, no rattles, engine doesn't shake or anything, so I'm pretty content so far.
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to give me, and I look forward to contributing whatever I can around here.

Hey, I'm also looking at buying a older jet ta 1999 (old body style) or 2000. I've been reading a lot about how bad the VW reliability is but I really like the looks of the Jetta over the Civic. I know the reliability factor is different from a Civic vs a Jetta but can you guys tell me what to expect, service or parts wise when buying a older Jetta.
thanks

You got yourself a good car there over the miles but good, I hope it works out for you. Parts and service are like a Civic, oil change every 5,000 miles and parts are a little pricey because some are imported from Mexico or Germany. As for reliability it really depends on the previous owner how the car was treated (raced, car accidents and etc). I've had a 2004 Honda Civic and it was hell for me, noting but problems with everything, the previous owner must of been rough with the car or something. Now I got a 2007 jetta and its like driving in luxury compare to a Civic.
