MK 4 Indicator problem. Holding back... |
|
Hi wondered if anyone could help... I've got a 2000 X reg MK4 golf (89k on the clock) And it feels like it is holding back, I can only get around 80mph out of it and it just doesnt feel right, the steering wheel shakes pritty much anything above 60 mph. Could this be down to the tracking...?
Im not sure if these models have a turbo, I'm pritty sure it is chipped as when i change gear there is that hissing noise (im not too clued up on these things as you can tell)
I would also like it given a thorough once over, (service/tuning) Any advice where to get it done - where they know what they are doing and I wont get ripped off?? (I live in the Kent area, near Bluewater)
Also the indicators are faulty, they keep going off, sometimes not even working at all! (even the hazards) is this a common problem?...costly...?
And the exhaust sounds like a diesel when it's a petrol, it's a factory exhaust...? I've checked underneath and there are no holes in it (I know some boy racers like to drill holes to make it sound loud...?)
It uses a fair bit of oil too, I've had to top it up 3 times since i've had it but can't see any leak, oil patches when I drive off...
This is my first Golf so dont know too much about them it's worrying me quite a bit and ive only had it around 2, maybe 3 months! Seriously thinking about selling it! Just not happy with it at all so much stress its causing me already . Cost me £3,200 (I know, they saw me coming!) Any idea's as to what I can expect to sell it for? Was ok to start off with but then 3-4 weeks in... problems. Please, Any advice?
Thank you!!!
p.s
Sorry about all the problems at once but I really need help and by the sounds of it you guy's know what you're talking about! Any help would be REALLY apprecciated!
Thank you!

you never said what engine is in the car.
i'm guessing its 1.8T??
the shaking over 60 would be either tracking or wheels not balanced.
let us know what engine is in it so we can hepl with the rest

well there's no turbo then so there should be no hissing!! dont know what that is! would need to look at it to find that problem. i doubt if its chipped because on an n/a engine the power gains are minimal. wouldnt cause a hissing if it was done anyway!
for your next question unless there is a local mechanic that you know personally a vw dealer would be the best place to go.
your exhaust might just sound that way because the internal's are slightly worn or it just sounds different to the last car you had and there is actually nothing wrong with it!!!
the oil is being burnt i'd say. not a whole lot you can do with it unless you get the engine rebuilt! who had the car before you??
to be honest it might not be any harm in selling it!! there's alot gone wrong with it and it might not be worth the stress! maybe sell it and buy another one from a garage where you can go back to them and say this is not right etc.,
