I moved up from a new beetle and I'm loving my '08. We had to shoehorn 3 kids, one of them in a car seat in the back. Was initally thinking Jetta, but it was tight and wouldn't work for us on long trips. The Passat's got more room and I think it's more sporty than the newb was, even though it's a larger car. I haven't start playing with it yet so I know it's underperforming as-is. Can't wait to uncork it a bit. Smile

I never owned a VW but I love them. I have a 2008 Passat that drives great except for the oil leak. But you have to expect something with 500 miles on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????

Just bought my 2008 Passat. It's really nice and roomy with plenty of power (4 cylinder with Turbo). One thing, it burns premium octane which is expensive but you can get up to 30 mpg.

I run basic 87 octane in mine on the Dealer's advice. Runs like a dream.

Wow! Can you really burn 87 octane? On the gas cap it say please use Premium unleaded! You car doesn't "ping" with the 87 octane? My mechanic friend says the turbo needs the Premium octane to work properly.

Mine runs fine. The Dealership told me that premium grade wasn't needed, and when they gave me my free tank of gas they put 87 octane in it. I'm running at 87 with no issues. I suspect if I selected the 'S' option and drove the car hard then I may then get some problems, but normal driving is fine with 87.

We just picked up our new Passat a little over 2 weeks ago. Drove it from Colorado to Iowa for a family reunion and averaged about 31 MPG on the way out battling thunderstorms and strong head/side winds. The return trip averaged about 35 MPG. Both directions were with a full trunk and 4 adults. Even with the load it was amazingly responsive to the throttle.

My son and I are both over 6'2" and we were very comfortable riding in the back when it was our turn to switch seating positions.

I'm pleased with the Passat. Especially after we compared it to equivalent vehicles from Toyota, Nissan and Subaru. You get much more car for the money from VW, and it has more pep.

passats are the way to go for a sedan! it's fun to drive and it's got alot of pep in it. if you can afford it, you should get the VR6 4motion one. that car is RIDICULOUSLY sick!
