Jetta 2000 does not realize key is out of ignition! |
|
When I put my key into the ignition, the car revs up and drives great, no warning lights. When I turn the ignition off and remove the key, the engine stops and the warning lights go out -- BUT all of the electrical equipment (radio, lights, etc.) will keep running. Also, when I open the door, the car beeps at me as if I have opened the door with the key still in the ignition. And the key does not work at all in remote mode: no door / trunk opening or locking.
It's as if the car does not realize the key is no longer in the ignition!
Any ideas are very appreciated!
Irene

Hello Irene
when the cars starts and dyes do you see a flashing light in the dash that looks like it has a key in it?

The same thing happened to me for the first time this morning. The car behaves exactly as it should except when the key is out of the ignition - it thinks the key is still in. I have a 1998 Jetta, and I replaced the ignition switch a couple of months ago. Should I try replacing the switch again?
Thanks, Lane
