Jetta 2.0 engine noise |
|
Ok any suggestions here it is the Jetta 2001 with the 2.0 engine, sounds like a pulley squeaking under the timing belt cover. It is not the timng belt tensioner or the water pump I changed those thinking they were the noise culprit. The noise is still there. When the car is first started the noise sounds like a chirp chirp about once every half second then disappears after about a minute or two. It was worse in the winter almost sounded like a pulley seizing one day in the morning last winter on one start up. The car is an automatic so it is not the air pump noise like on the manual model. It is definitely sounding like under the timing belt cover. Anybody ever have their camshaft bearings go bad on these 2.0 engines? Stumped on this car again. I have done the old sound through the dowel rod trick listened to the Serpentine tensioner pulley, alternator and and a/c pump. I also changed the serpentine belt tensioner pulley first, as I thought it might be the noise maker nope same noise after that was changed. ???? Anyone seen this before?

Could be the distributer bushing seizing up. I have a 96 jeep that would do that until I replaced it.
