Help please! I have a 2005 Passat TDI and the A/C works perfectly at times and at other times does not cool at all. It can work perfectly in the morning and not at all in the afternoon. Alternately, it can work perfectly in the afternoon and not at all in the morning! All of this began after I had a front end collision that required the replacement of the hood and passenger-side fender. The repair shop could not find any problems (of course) and all of the hoses and wires were in tact. The problem persists.
I know that the coolant is not leaking since when it does work it cools very well. My guess is an electrical / switch issue. Perhaps the collision cracked the soldering on a switch that causes intermittent failures?
Has anyone seen any similar issues?

Another VW forum covered this... it was the relay. Had it replaced and runs beautifully now!
