Ignition troubles |
|
My 92 Jetta decided it doesn't want to start anymore. I've recently replaced the distributor and the ignition coil, but when I turn the key, only one spark goes from the coil to the distributor, as opposed to the continuous sparking that should happen. The battery was replace a year ago, so that shouldn't be the problem.
My cars been tempermental ever since I got it, sometimes not starting, but then starting an hour later. And as always, not acting up when brought to the garage. Its also died on several occasions while idling and driving at full speed.
Any help would be great.

sounds like possable wiring and ECM concern.
as that year and model you have change out the items that mke the spark.
but the ECM tell time and length the wiring from ECM to engine is the link. Have to say you need to start back at square one. Cheking voltage and grounds at coil and distributor.
good luck keep us updated

whoa buddy slow down with the ecm this could be cheap if you have a manual there a possibility of it being your clutch safety switch in a automatic your neutral safety switch but what it sounds like to me is it might be your ignition switch to test this put your key on the on position be sure your car is in neutral now locate the positive jumper on your starter and get some wire at least 8 guage and jumper the battery to the positive terminal to your starter if your engine starts and runs each time work your way down the list in this order is it your clutch safety switch is it your ignition switch is it your starter solenoid as a definite also to be safe check your battery it should read on a ohmmeter no lower than 12 on the average 14.73 volts. theres still many cheaper things you need to check find a harbor freight tool store some where and get a cheap ohmmeter

You have great advise thanks for the adde info.
You could have noticed that the car cranks form his info ther is a spark problem not cranking problem.
Plus I did not sat replace ECM I said could be ECM or Wiring Problem. That he needed to check voltages and grounds before doing any thing.
We are her eto help not just tell them what to do and you will find I am not telling to Go spend a thousand dollors on a ECM and try it.
