Hi im hoping to find some help from anyone, my baby wendy ( wendy the wagon ) wont start!

wendy is a mark 3 golf, 1.4 cl

a couple of days ago i noticed she was taking a while to start when wet, i disregarded this as nothing major. then my battery finally went flat! i thought id buy a new battery and fit it and everything will be fine???? i went out this morning and fitted the brand new battery. i turned the car over and over but nothing happend apart from a few noises that sounded like she was about to start! i tryed to start the car for about 4 minutes of constant starter moter and now my new battery is flat! i noticed the battery connectors were hot and noticed tiny bit of white smoke from a hole thing directly under my distribution cap thing.

please help as i need wendy for my college tommorrow!

is it normal for a brand new quality battery to go flat after 4minutes of starter moter?

any help would be appreciated guys

hi, your problem might be either your starter or your distributor. i would advise you get a good mechanic to check it out, you shuldnt take any chances by fiddling on your own. cheers!

Hello, First I am concerned about your "white smoke" That should never happen. By the time you read this you will be back from school.
#1 you require clean , tight , cable ends and wires. A hot one indicates a poor connection.
#2 4 minutes wow YOU BET things will get hot. Thats a lot of energy .
#3 If you want me to phone you. My plan is about $0,60/hr send me your number and available time and after work I will call you. Send me a regular e mail to daemdaem@yahoo.com Allan

I had a similar problem with "Mace"

My engine would not turn over, and I was getting no response from starter what-so-ever. So I basically threw er in second and jump started it until I had some time to take a look. All that was required was a starter disassembly and full cleaning (brushes, housing, etc.). It's been working fine ever since.

With your new battery and question as to whether or not it can go dead in 4 minutes? Hell yes. Your cranking out mass amounts of cold amps out of that baby and over the course of 4 minutes with no such return charge??? That thing will POOCH! White smoke also as stated before - never a good sign. Definately have a mechanic look at this, that is all.

Good luck!
