welcome to the site |
I see you live in Elk Grove, I just moved from the Sacto. area 4 years ago. I lived in Rancho.
I have a few small problems and one big one. First I would like to know what type of Trans. Fluid to put in it and where the fill plug is?
1987 Golf GL standard trans. 1.8 single cam. The big problem is with the fuel system. If I keep the tank full it starts up first time everytime,
but if the tank gets low it might take 5 or 6 trys before it will stay running. Any Ideas? A mechanic told me it had low fuel pressure at the warm-up
regulator but if there working don't change them. What do you think?

first is the trans manual or auto?
Second you have a bad in tank pre fuel pump problem. It brings the fuel to the main pump.
The main pump is working to hard to bring fuel from the tank to it. Then it's trying to ramp up fuel preasure at the same time.

It's a five speed manual, I can't find the fill plug nor do I know what type of fluid to put in it.
Are you saying that I have a pre-fuel pump in the tank and if so where is the main pump?
The cv joints are making noise, can I just fill the boots up with grease or will I have to replace them?

on the side of trans you will see a big allen plug it is a 17mm size.
regular 75/90 gear oil is fine.
you fill to bottom of plug hole.
the drain is right in the lowest part of the trans same allen plug is used.
as for your cv joints if th eboots are not ripped you can just put grease in and reseal.
if are were you just get boot kits and just replace them.
main pump lower right side under car near front right tire.
