GTI MK2.. SHOULD I BUY??? plz help |
|
hey, i am currently looking at buying a 92 16v montana green gti. The carfax on it says it has been in a collision however the owner has no knowledge of this. the car drives straight and handles like a dream. (took a corner w/ 4 people at 40mph) which i thought was real good. the carfax also showed that it has not passed emisions for over a year (it has recent tabs thought). THe owner says that it is the catilitic converter and just needs a new one. The owner is a vw macanic (not officialialy) and has rebuilt the top end of the motor. The car is in perfect condition w/ minor dents and dings, very clean though. his asking price is $2700. however when i asked to take it to the shop to get it checked on (my buddies same year gti has a load of problems and im scared if i dont get it checked out mine might as well) the owner declined and said he can run the tests himself. it seems to run great but one time it didnt start right away (only like a couple of seconds to start) would everyone jump on this deal or run away from it?? i love this car but by him refusing to take it to a machanic i am a little scared. PLZ tell me what you think i should do.
