 Golf Suspension 96 to 97 |

Hi, I recently bought a Golf CL 1997 from Ontario and I live in Quebec so the safety check was mandatory. Sadly it failed the test and I need to replace my back suspension. My friend trashed his old Golf CL 1996 about a month ago and he managed to save some parts. Here's my question
Does the suspension from a Golf CL 96 fit on the 97 model?. Hopefully it does cause this would save me alot time/trouble.
