Golf GTi tacho/computer/warning lights cahoots malfunction |
|
Hi
I've got a 92 1800 8V Golf Gti, it's only my 2nd car (I'm 33) after my
1600 air cooled panelvan bus.
I've had it or shall I say thrashed it for years, it's got 312 000 km's
on the clock, never had a rebuild, never been open etc. It's had this
problem since the day I got it but it's got progressively worse so I'm
thinking cracked solder joint or cracked PCB or something. What happens
is, the tacho needle drops off suddenly and randomly, along with
this the computer resets the display(doesn't reset the figures) and the
oil light and water light flash.
This all happens at the same time. Occasionally it will work for a trip
or even a whole day and I can access all the trip info etc on the
display and see my revs and then those LED's flash, the tacho dies and
the display only tells me what time it is and will not let me scroll
through the options. It hasn't worked for a while now but every now and then the tacho will work for a second or so but the warning lights flash as well although there is enough of everything in the car.
I hope you can help me out with this, trouble is, we lack the enthusiasts and
specialists here in dark africa.
