gear box oil |
|
could being low or empty on gear box oil cause a rubbing or knocking sound? not bearings or drive shaft, if so how do you change the oil? vw polo 1.4 16v W reg

Hello, I am a millwright, and see lots of low oil issues. You bet those sounds can be oil level related, but not neccesarily.
Oil level is checked on standards this way. Remove 10mm <socket size> bolt holding speedmometer drive gear. Remove gear. level should be about 1/2 way on this gear. To drain it there is a large Allen head ,or square drive plug on the lower side of tranny. Allan
