fix a paint chip or scratch |
|
Get some touchup paint, preferably from your dealer.
Clean all dirt, wax, loose paint from the area.
Use a fine artists brush or toothpick.
(don?t use the brush that came with the bottle, its too big)
Apply a small amount of paint to the chipped area.
This may take several coats. Do them in small amounts,
letting them dry in between.
Take Care not to get any on the surrounding area.
Be prepared to wipe any spills off immediately.
Once you have the chip filled in, use rubbing or polishing
compound to smooth the surface and blend it into the surrounding paint.
Scratches which are only in the clear coat can be smoothed
out with rubbing or polishing compound.
You need to be careful not to remove too much clear coat, or to scratch the paint.
If the scratch is deep, you can smooth the edges a bit, wax over it, and it will be barely noticeable to anyone but you.
