dashboard lights and alarm cannot disingage |
|
I have a 1998 Golf which I bought with only 46,000 original kilometers. Recently I had the ignition coil replaced because there was a crack on it and the car kept on stalling when it was raining or when the engine got wet. After that was replaced I had no problem with stalling anyl onger but something totally new has appeared. My engine light is constantly on. When I asked the dealer about that I was told that I have a faulty circuit board. That is good but now my radio will not turn off when the engine is off. I have to do it manually each time I turn the engine off plus my door alarm will houl endlessly if the door is opened in spite of the fact that there is no key in the ignition. The last new event is that a light that is for the airbag keeps on appearing and disappearing.
Keep in mind that the car has only 80,000 km. I am really afraid to take it to the Agincourt Autohouse, which is my neighbourhood VW dealer because it cost me 1,300 for the ignition coild to be replaced. That is how long it took them to notice the crack. Wonder if anyone else has had similar problems with their car and how can I find out what is going on with all these lights, radio and alarm.

As far as the radio goes, chances are that the igition switch (the one your key goes in) is dead or on its way out. This happens from time to time on my 01 Golf & i have to put the key back in the ignition switch, turn it forward to the on position & then off again & then the radio will shut off. With the check engine light, 9 times out of 10 its the O2 sensors. The airbag light though is an odd one. There must be a fault in the airbag system - it works independently from the cars computer. My airbag light was on in my 01 Golf but thats because i removed the front seats. I had to have the dealer reset that for me at $100.00 - expensive mistake on my part LOL! Take it to a parts store & have them scan for codes - they will usually do it for free - see what codes come up & replace the parts according to what codes it maybe throwing.
