Check Coolant |
|
Hello:
When I started the engine today, the display said " STOP. CHECK COOLANT". There was a lot of smoke coming out from behind.
Could anyone let me know what the problem is?
Thanks

Most cars have a plastic coolant recovery tank connected to the radiator by a hose, so there's no need to open the radiator cap itself. The coolant level should be at the tank's MAX or HOT line when the engine is hot, and lower when it's cold.

Yep i tried it before and but i still open the vw radiator cap. It was a hard work, should have known better.
btw,
check if the coolant level has gone down and look for leaks. It might have an air bubble in the system, if so bleed the system to get out air. To flush the whole system might be a bad idea if u are having heating issues. You can buy new thermostat at it while the coolant is out. Makes sure to buy the fail safe kind that stick open when they die and not close so even if they die, your car will not over heat.
