Car has me stumped?? |
|
Ok, this is my first post btw, i'm Jason and I have a 1995 Volkswagen Golf I have been trying to fix up.
I have replaced the following items.
Fuel Pump
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Spark Plugs
Spark Plug Wires
Distributor Cap/Rotor
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Intake Manifold Gaskets
EGR Gaskets (not sure on EGR functionality, how do I test?)
Replaced MAF
Replaced vacuum lines
Replaced O2 sensor
Cat is currently gutted, will be replacing soon
And probably some stuff i've forgot about.
Anyway, it seems if I fix one problem I find another.
So I cleaned the Idle Air Control and it seemed to affect my idle for the good, but now I notice i'm idling wayyy to high even after engine is warmed up.
It seems to be idling around 1300-1400 RPMs. Why?
Also, I took it for a test drive and I noticed when i slowed down (downshifted, 5 spd manual) as I was downshifting the engine would stall. Giving it gas had no effect and it would stall anyway, it would start right back up but when I went to slow down, again it stalls?
Seemed to have plenty of power, I ran through all the gears and accellerated pretty hard each time and it didnt stutter or anything, until I slow down, could this be related to it idling too high or what. I am totally stumped.. If anymore info is required please do not hesitate to ask.

couldn't you adjust the throttle cable?
or did you try that.

adjusting the throttle cable will fix it for about 20 minutes until the ecm re calibrates take a pic of the throttle body for me and ill tell you if you can adjust it some throttle bodies on other cars have a black plastic housing that relays the throttle position to the computer and it can be moved forward or backward to change your idle without the ecm readjusting it again however i dont think this is the case on your car i have a 96 and they should be the same it would have to be something else clean your iat and maf maybe that will help
