bump/gulp/clonk -ing sound from the front suspension/axle |
|
Hi.
I've reciently bought myself a golf mk4.
Everything is good except that I have this weird noise/sound.
When i drive up or down speedbumps, or when I drive i small holes on the street, my car makes this clonk noise.
Since I'm not too good with cars I, booked an apointment at MOT, the place you take your car to yearly for inspection and approval to be driving them on streets, they didnt find anything on the checks they do, I was hoping for a bushing, balljoint, tierod ends or similar, but nothing according to MOT..
But I can assure that this isn't supposed to be like this, there is something wrong!
Sound if coming from both sides at the front, as if the wheels were not tightened or the suspension damper nut weren't tightened enough.
Would like to ask if anyone knows if there is a known problem with theese cars, and if someone recognizes my story and can connect it to a known problem.
please let me know!
thanks
Dejan

I had the same problem on my 03 Golf and it turned out it was a pair of rubber bushings ($20 a piece) I also thought it was something expensive. The service manager told me that it's something that needs to be done every few years. Good luck.

you need to have your upper srut bushing replaced this is most likely your noise.
open your hood look at both side of the engine bay you will see one on each side up near the wiper arm area.
if you have a gap more than a pinky finger between the painted cown area and the strut cap the need to bee replaced.
this should cost you about $150.00 parts and labor at a good VW repair shop.

1.Its either your Swaybar bushings being worn out or
2.Strut mounts worn out and compressed over time or
3.Rear "Hockey puck" bushings on your front control arms being separated. Have the VW shop check it out they'll know how to check these things!

Similar Problem??? |
|
I have an 97 Golf TRek. I noticed a sudden wobble to the passenger front end when I decelerated to come to a stop from highway speed. It felt I had a flat spot on the tire. I pulled over but the tire was fine. I then noticed that it only happened when I was slowing down or when the clutch was disengaged.
I thought maybe tie rod or CV joint but just this morning I hearda grinding or "clicking" sound when it did it again. Its definately something that is rotating. Funny thing is I doesn't do it when I accelerate.
Please let em know if you can give some assistance.
