Beetle Engine Swap |
|
I everyone,
I am hoping to buy a '72 1.6 Beetle and am wondering if anyone has any previous experience with changing the engine.
Unfortunately I have to downsize the engine due to insurance purposes and I want to know if anyone has any ideas of what might be the best engine to put in, or if anyone has any recommendations.
The new engine needs to be at most a 1.3 so I suppose the obvious choice would be a 1.3 Beetle engine but they can prove difficult to find. Would it be possible to put in an engine from an early 90's Polo, Golf, Lupo, etc perhaps?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

A 1.6 L engine in 73 bettle is only a 1600cc engine it has only 50 hp .
hate to bud in but why you need a lower Engine Size.
you can have a 1300 cc engine built and it is a easy plug ang play engine swap.
your 1300 cc engine is going to cost you some good change as the parts are not Cheap fro stock per 1965 motor parts.
good luck

Hi thanks for your reply. The reason I have to downsize the engine is that no insurance company will cover me in a 1600cc 72 Beetle. I have a provisional license and the most powerful engine I can be insured in is 1275cc. Im amazed theyed even insure me at all so Im trying to figure out the best solution to make it possible.
