99 Passat Shifter Problem |
|
Hi guys, I'm new to these forums but not new to VW. I have a problem. A few days ago the shifter started to act up. When I put the car in D, it automatically goes to Tiptronic mode. The shifter is in the D position , but the car acts as if I put it into manual mode. When I pull back on the shifter, it goes right back into drive.
The car pulls fine, and everything works fine when put into manual mode, or when holding the shifter back(I have been using a pack of cigarettes to keep it in place). I had a guy look at it and he claims that it might the the transmission computer. What do you guys think? I thought it might be some sort of worn out sensor/plastic, but I would have never thought it was the computer. It just makes no sense as the car drives fine. Please any input is appreciated, as they want $1700 for the computer..
