97 jetta/Knocking sound when braking. |
|
Hey guys I have a diesel 1997 jetta GL. When I am slowing down to stop prob. 5-10kph I hear a knocking sound coming from the front of the car.....sometimes I hear this when I am going over a bump. anyone else had this same problem? know what it is?

update:
This might be a guess but I noticed that one of my engine mounts seem to be broke off, I can lean the engine a bit with a good pull...... its a diesel and it normally runs rough..could it be at that moment (5-10kph) it vibrates my engine against something? I notice the sound is there when I go over certain bumps too..... also there is no knocking when the car is off when I brake.
any help be great!

could be your wheel bearings, CV joints or a warped disk.
take off the disk and lay it flat on something level. if its not sitting on the surface all around the disk is warped. when you have the disk off, turn the hub by hand, if their is any rough sound or feel in it the bearing is gone.
