96 Passat Alternator |
|
Any idea how long it should take to change an alternator on 96 Passat GLX VR6?
The garage is going to charge me 4 hours labour and $500 CDN for a new Bosch 14 V 120 AMP alternator. Is this reasonable? I asked to have the old alternator, and they said they need to return it to their supplier in order to get the new one for $500.
Please help!
Thanks.

Yep replacing an alternator can be quite messy and trying if you ask me. A 120amp Bosch alternator would cost around $US400-430 depending on where you buy it. Repair shops of course profit from selling replacement parts. Ask them if you could buy the alternator youself, you could save a lot of money if you do.
