90 GLI 16 v starting and idle problem |
|
Hello,
Brand new to the forum. I am the frustrated owner of a 90 Jetta GLi 16 v. I have had this car for 7 years with no problems until about two weeks ago. Ran through a puddle at night and car instantly shut off. $800.00 + and 5 days later it starts and idles bad.
Mechanic checked and cleaned everything and said that they have done all they can. Aside from stealing $800.00 they gave me back a car that just runs poorly now.
Any ideas on where to look next would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello, Ran fine, then got wet. Try this. In a dark place. Open hood and cover headlights. Run motor and look closely at wires , plugs , coil , and distributor. If you see some blue lights, or hear a arc, thats where to look. You probably are experiencing a high voltage coil or wire failure. The other thing you might want to check is the inside of your distributor cap. Shoild be real dry with no carbon. Allan
