72 beetle |

well i picked up my 72 beetle today ,has a couple of issues,the choke was staying closed ,it will start and run if you open the choke alittle ,but if you open it all the way it will die out pretty quick ,has a after market air filter ,has a real lous sucking noise from carb ,i no they make some noise but my bb camaro doesnt make that much noise, any idea's?

Sounds like the choke needs an adjustment and the needle valves may also need an adjustment. Basic tune up I'd think. Make sure there is power to the choke too. I'd consider changing the air filter. Does it run better with the filter off? I'd also pull the plugs and at least clean them or replace them if possible. They may have been in there for a long time and it never hurts to change them so you know where you stand. Same with the Fuel filter. If this is your first bug and you aren't familiar with maintaining them I'd suggest buying a book to help with the learning curve. What ever you do I hope you enjoy it.

Hello, Foggy is correct as far as he went. However I have found a number of single ports and some duals had a hidden defect. The stock intake manifold was heated by a thin flattened exhaust tube. They developed pin hole leaks causing this type of issue. Yours is an old maid at 30 plus. Dont be surprised if you have a intake issue as well. Allan
