2.0L gas 5 speed swap-out for a TDI 5 speed? |
|
I have a 2.0L gas 5 speed, and it spins the little mill at 3,000rpm just to do a crummy 100kph (60mph)...
I thought I might swap the gasser tranny with TDI tranny...
I'm thinking the 800rpm drop in rpm @ 60mph with the diesel tranny would be helpful fuel economy wise.
Any thoughts, any one done this?
It should bolt right in there....wouldn't it?
TIA

in theory that will work but you will have no over taking power and will lose a massive amount of torque.

I agree that the car will take more time to get from 60mph in 5th. gear to say 70mph in 5th with the TDI 5 speed....but, the engine will still make the same torque as it always has.
The gas engine starts to get into the meat of it's torque curve at about 2000rpm.
The torque peak is at about 3,200rpm.
I figure the engine will still pull the gear (5th) at 2200rpm fairly well.
As it is right now, I can "lug" the little engine in 5th gear down to 2200rpm and still pull that gear with-out much problem, but yes it is slow, or as I said, takes time.
So, what I was trying to find out was if someone actually had 1st. hand experience with the swap.
I may just turn out to be the guinea pig...
