2007 Buying advice needed |
|
Has anyone experienced where leather seats are better or more comfortable than leatherette?
I am buying a used 2007 Passat and have that choice, ie pkg 1 vs pkg 2. $3,400 price difference between these choices has me choosing the pkg 1 unless someone offers a compelling reason to spend more. Some feature in pkg 2 particulary making worth while?
I read of mildew and water in the car on this forum with 4 or 5 users. I read they are resolved with keeping vent open and running AC in Auto.
I also read where there is a class action suit for water damage.
Is this a real problem, or merely a failure to fully understand how to keep the vents & filters clear and clean as VW claims is the problem? There is nothing I hate more than moisture and mildew in a car. If the Passat is more prone to this, tell me now - PLEASE.
I have rarely had to do unexpected or emergency service on any of my cars under 100,000 miles.
I am hearing it is more likely with the Passat.
Though that general statement could mean any year.
I am wondering how many of you had service issues beyond usual maintenance with 2006 and newer - and what they were?
In Vermont Subaru Outbacks are like the state car. Very bad roads and more dirt per mile than probably anywhere in the country. I am wondering if I make a mistake due to my unfortunate preference for European cars.
This will be the only car between 3 drivers. I can't afford down time.
Your thoughts?

2007 Passat |

I don't know about all the other problems and such, but I would be glad to share my opinion with you.
I own a 2007 VW Passat 2.0T Wolfsberg Edition, that I purchased in July of 2007.
I had one problem in winter, where the windshield would frost from the inside. When I talked to the dealer, they told me to keep my recirculation air vents open during the night. I haven't had it happen since.
I have the leatherette seating, and it is excellent. In winter the seats heat up FAST and they stay cooler than my old car's leather seats did.
I've washed my car at least 15 times, park outside all the time, and drive it through blizzards and thunderstorms. I have never had a drop of water come inside. I also have awful allergies to mold, and never feel uncomfortable in my VW.
Plus, Fort Wayne, IN is the definition of four seasons weather, and while the Chevy Tahoes and Ford Excursions are sliding into ditches, I drive by in my calm VW. I know Vermont is worse, but we had some hefty snowstorms last year, and I never had to call in to work because of road conditions
From my own experience, I recommend this car to any buyer.
Like I said, this is my personal opinion, but I am truthful in it.
Hope this helps!
