2006 Passat - Starting issues |
|
Hey all,
First time here, hoping someone can offer some helpful advice. I bought an '06 Passat 4-dr last month, it had 27k on it, perfect condition. Very pleased.
Two weeks after I bought it, it wouldn't start. I put the fancy key in the dash, everything lit up but nothing happened. Silence every time I pushed it in. I tried for 15 mins...No cranking, no attempt to start, nothing happened.
I took it to a dealership, they replaced the starter, it worked fine for a few days. Then, the same problem again. I put the key in, the lights on the dash all come on but nothing happened. More silence, apart from me tearing my hair out.
I had it towed back in, again, and I just got a call saying it's a bad starter! Again? Seriously, what are the odds that this is from two bad starters in a row? To me, it sounds like a faulty ignition switch or a wiring issue.
Is there anything I can do to get them to investigate further, or am I screwed until the third time this sucker won't start on me, probably somewhere in the middle of nowhere?
Thanks.

Do not take your car back till they can prove it will not happen again.
Starters just don't go bad unles somthing is going on.
This new system there is no wires from Ignition to starter. It go's thru a computer that tells the starter to turn.
there is somthing else going on.
keep us updated

I know that this is a few months after you posted, but I have had the same problem, and the dealership has not got it fixed yet. They have replaced my key, the steering wheel control module, and i was just told today that VW told them to replace the whole steering column, and some other module.
I have been battling this for months, and the dealer has had my car for about 3 weeks total in the last 6 weeks.
I have a 2006 3.6 Passat Luxury, and I will try and post again if the problem is taken care of this time. The dealer has my care as I type.

VW dealers are clueless. Both dealers near my home were incapable of fixing any problems.
I eventually had to use a good local mechanic for the diagnosis and then have the dealer do the warranty work using the information I provided to them.
My sugestion is to do what I did. Sell off your VW and get a Toyota.

I just got my car back, and it so far is starting everytime.
They replace the steering column, and the comfort control mondule.
This appears to be accoring to a TSB, that was out for my car. TSB 2016689
I will keep everyone informed of my saga, if it continues.
Thanks
