I think I have a thermostat problem on my 2008 passat with 1.8 engine. I was going down the road and all of the sudden the STOP signal came. Temp was at about 240. I think the thermostat is stuck closed. No coolant leaking. So...where is the thermostat and how do you change it.
Thanks, Rob

I do not think you have a bad T-stat. You more than likely have a bad water pump impeller as this is a common problem.

Last I turned on the engine and observed the temp guage. It heated up slowly and stayed at 190. Then it started rising, but eventually came back down to near 190. SInce the temp guage fluctuates, doesn't that mean the pump is working? I'm thinking it seems for like the temp sensor.
Any thoughts?
