2001 jetta GLS starter noise |
|
I have a 2001 jetta with just under 100000, when i start it it sounds like im holding the starter too long, but I can hold it long or short and it will do it randomly. I hear it could be bad barrings in the starter. Any ideas.

Starter Noise |
|
I have a 2000 GLX with the same problem. It started @ 55,000 miles, I now have 110,000 miles. I'm either really lucky or it is a mild annoyance-type problem. My thought is it is probably the solenoid in the starter not disengaging it from the flywheel.
The starter will probably need replaced. Another 300-500 bucks down the drain.

Vw Jetta starter noise |

It is not the starter. I had the same thing, so I put a new starter on it. The noise was still there. There could be a few teeth on the flywheel causing interference. I am going to check mine out, when I have time.

This is the cause if you do not change your stater sooner. this is what happens you damage teeth on th flywheel.
Thanks for your info.
