My temperature indicator would always be neatly locked at 190F, no matter the weather, until yesterday. I took a three hour drive but the engine temp never reached 190. What does it mean?

My appologies, guys: it's about 2001 Jetta 1.8T, not 2000 Jetta 1.8T. I made a mistake because I bought it in August 2000.

About 160. And I didn't notice any oddities while driving.

Yes, I drove it for about half an hour yesterday, excidentally making a short break with the idling engine, when the temperature reached 190, and dropped back to 160 when I continued my driving.

I'm terse because I'm not sure what information would be pertinent to provide. Thanks for asking your questions.

no problem
i'd get that put in the vag-nostics and see what comes up. the fact that its running cold wouldnt worry me as much as if it was running hot. only thing that would worry is if there is a thermostat sticking somewhere.

Sounds like a good news to me. I would like to stick to this car and squeeze out of her as much as possible.

I recently got the same problem. Did you find what is it? My dealer charging over $600 for thermostat replacement. Is it right?
