1999 Jetta Transmission Trouble |
|
1999 Jetta. 4 Cyl. Automatic. Will no longer shift into 4th gear. Also won't shift automatically, but you can manually run 1 through 3. As a result, top speed is about 40mph. Mechanic installed new speed sensors and it works for less than a week. (Done this three times -- he can't figure out what else is the problem.) Dealership says "put in a new transmission for $4K". Any ideas about what could be killing the speed sensors?

Hello, I do not know where you live, however VW has had lots of these issues. You need to consult with a firm that only works on Transmissions. The reason is a fully qualified warrantee mechanic needs to electronically diagnose your problem. Look in your yellow pages for a national chain with factory certified technitions. Find one you are comfortable with. Allan
