1991 Mk2 golf 1.3 Possible bent gear selector (help Please) |
|
My 1991 Mk2 golf 1.3 lost the use of 2nd gear and putting it into 1st is a job for a very strong man, the recovery Man said it is most Possibly a bent gear selector, another golf driver i know also said it does not look straight.
My question to all those VW drivers out there is what does a bent selector look like, if any one could post a photo (just so i can compare) Or could there be another reason out there that i can't get 2nd gear (and 1st occasionally).
If it is the selector is this any easy part to pick up and fix or will i need a new gear box / shit etc (i have been told that i might)
so if there is anyone out there who could help with pictures or info on symptoms and cure for my little golfs injury, or anyone in Norfolk (Norwich area) U.K. who has a selector of gear box / shift etc to sell please please get in touch
I'm New to cars and golfs so i don't know much about fixing them.
please pleas help me, i hate seeing my girl just sitting there on the drive.
Thanks alot.
Nathaniel.

Hello from Canada. MMMMMMM I assume you had a minor mishap. Good news//Bad news. Provided that you do not have a failing gearbox, the Good news is that the plastic bushing repair kit is about 6 pounds at your local dealer. Better yet, The bushings are a wear item. The linkage main shaft does get out of adjustment and is easy to readjust . The bad is a special tool is required. Try searching the net for vw linkage adjustment Allan

your selecter rod should have a bend in it
could be the bushers at the control box end or your gear box is on its way out
