Post '05 Jetta - Question about shifting into drive... Reply with quote
OK - So I just bought a 2005 Jetta GLS (old body style) last week. I love most everything about the car, but I have a question about how it shifts into drive. When moving from Park to Drive, it seems to "jump" into gear. It seems to run fine from there on, and while the shifting seems a little slower than I'm used to - I traded in a Pontiac V6 with a 3.8L engine, so I expect I'll have to adjust to the difference in acceleration.

My question is, is this abrubt shift from Park to Drive normal for Jettas? It seems to wait until I've completely let off the brake, so I'm wondering if it's some feature of the car. I've also noticed other Jetta owners mention similar things. Anyways, I'm fine with certain "character traits" of cars, so long as they're not symptoms of a worse problem. Anyways, any insight would be appreciated - especially while I can still call the dealer and tell them what they're going to do for free Smile.
