01MK4 Golf GT TDI 115BHP broken down on way home from dealer |
|
Hi,
I just bought a 2001 MK4 golf from a VW dealer who said it was an "as is" sale. On my way home, the turbo died, then came back on when the car was turned off and restarted. After this, about 2 miles down the road, I heard a bang and pulled over thinking one of the tires might have blown. They were all fine but when I tried to move off it chugged and conked. I restarted and as I pulled off the engine was low on power and black smoke was pouring from the exhaust. I decided to drive home slowly, about another 2 miles. I then found some oil dripping from the engine compartment. My friend had a look and reckoned the oil was dripping down onto the air intake for the turbo.
Does anybody know where I stand regarding bringing it back to the dealer? They were just closed when this happened so I haven't spoken to them yet but I reckon they're gonna try and screw me. They said there was no guarantee with the car as it was an "as is" sale. I also can't drive it back to them in case I make it worse.
A friend who is a mechanic said over the phone that it sounded like the turbo might be bust. Anyone have any idea how much this might cost or even if you would care to correct me on this.
Thanks
